We are proud to announce our fifth annual Léran Music Festival on June 16, 17 and 18, 2017. What started as a simple idea to celebrate the wonderful Leran choir, has become an amazing and diverse international festival. It embraces opera, jazz, folk and all kinds of musical fun and talent from the village, the region and many countries overseas.

Our 2016 festival was a great success (despite temperatures more fitting for January than June). Memorable singers included Hungarian baritone, Gyula Nagy—now making a great impact at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Returning in 2017 is Florence Chong, a delightful and talented young soprano from Malaysia and Korean pianist Seho Lee. We also welcome back our great supporter, the talented Eloise Urbain, Professor of Accompaniment at the Toulouse Conservatoire. Artists appearing with us for the first time are Jane Irwin a well-known and acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Dominic Natoli an Australian tenor with a magnificent operatic repertoire. Our final new artist is baritone JongHoon Heo from Korea who is developing a very successful career.

Regulars know that we always include a musical quartet in out programme. But this year’s is a new departure – a foursome of saxophone players from Toulouse. We are also delighted to welcome back another of our 2016 artists Jerome Bratjman whose accordion playing last year got us all dancing. He will be delighting us at a Thé dansant – a fun afternoon event for children and adults alike, with cakes made by members of the choir.

Our much loved opera gala stars all the solo singers in a show-stopping programme of opera excerpts of arias, duets and ensembles from Mozart to Verdi and Puccini.

Echoing last year’s amazing success, Sunday features an organ recital in the village church.

We are also delighted that the Occitan Folk Group “Les Bouilleurs de Sons” will be performing our free street concert on Sunday after the organ recital. They are wonderful musicians who also make their own instruments.

Our finale concert includes a major piece written by Alan Simmons for children’s choir, soloists’ choir, the Léran choir, organ, three trombones, three trumpets and percussion. This should blow the roof off the Grange! There will also be excerpts from oratorio and some of the Brahms Liebeslieder waltzes sung by all the soloists.

It’s a line-up with something for everyone! Check our web site later in the year for full programme details.

In addition to this website which is specific to the annual music festival, we also maintain a facebook page for the choir that is based in Leran all year round. Click here to go to the choir facebook page.
